Abstract In Red, artist Unknown, The Hoffman Art collection, Naples Sculpture Walk

Abstract In Red, from the Hoffman Art Collection, Naples, FL  5th Avenue Naples Sculpture Walk

This piece drew my attention while driving down the luxurious 5th Avenue collection of high-end restaurants and boutique shops.  This sits in front of The French where it is illuminated to highlight its vibrate red color and swirling form.

Though the sculptor is unknown, the impact of the piece is no less significant. As you can see the abstraction by use of curved metal in swirl shapes gives imagery of movement ascending upwards.  The medium of metal, perhaps aluminum with a rich glossy red finish presents strength woven into delicate elongated forms.  Because of its 3 dimensional aspects, you experience the piece in different ways depending on the side you are observing it.  From the side where the placard sits, the form takes on almost a life-like quality with long expressed flowing pieces seeming like arms.  As if it were a moment captured of two dancers entwined.  The bending back shape of the lower form seems as if it were reaching up with the taller figure in almost a pirouette motion.

I believe this abstract piece would represent a “form in the round” abstract art.  That takes the full piece from base to top without a background or foundational materials as a backdrop.

The backdrop it does have is that of a classic French bistro-style restaurant call “The French”.  Its rich red color compliments the reds of the awnings shown in the background.  It is a complimenting piece for its location.

I personally find it whimsical considering its placement in front of the french restaurant that reminds me of my time in Paris where there many sights like this.  Quaint bistros with black and white basket weaved chairs out front and the many beautiful thought-provoking art pieces just like this Abstract in Red, artist Unknown.
